As a stop between Idaho and San Francisco we decided on the tiny town of Battle Mountain, Nevada. Randomly, the town is the yearly host of the World Human Powered Speed Challenge. Participants fly in from around the world to compete and reach top speeds in enclosed bicycle-like machines on a 5 mile stretch of perfectly flat road. The current record for "World's Fastest Human propelled by their own power" was set a year ago at 82.8 mph. Below is a video of a Slovenian racer who is one of world's fastest:
